Empowering Learners: USING ASSESSMENTS TO DRIVE Engagement and Reflection

 Sunday January 19, 2025

Increase learner engagement through the design of communicative tasks that are purposeful--ones where students understand why they are doing a certain task, how it will build their proficiency in Arabic. By incorporating reflection, students learn how to effectively monitor their language learning progress, increasing motivation to continue learning the language.

In this workshop, we'll learn how AI can support you in the design of units, lessons, activities and assessments that build and demonstrate Global Competencies. During this program we will review key understandings around what AI is, what it does well, and the challenges AI might present. That foundation will support us as we review how to intentionally select and leverage AI tools for the various components of the teaching and learning cycle. We will also touch on tools students can use safely and other ways to support students to develop the new skills they will need in an AI-integrated world.

Guest Speaker: Manar Tarzi

This interactive end-of-year workshop invites Arabic language teachers to pause and reflect through structured self-assessment. We’ll explore what worked, what didn’t, and how to grow from the year’s experience. Through guided reflection, goal setting, and discussion, participants will rethink their teaching practices, explore helpful tools, and use student assessment data to plan with purpose for the year ahead.
